Barnesbury Road Race Festival *** Cancelled ***

Stephen McIntosh, organiser of the Barnesbury road race weekend has had to take the late decision to cancel both the Ballantyne Trophy and the Border Trophy/Sam Walton Memorial Road Race scheduled for this coming weekend Saturday and Sunday 2nd/3rd May 2015. This was due to a lack of key volunteers needed to run a well run,  safe race to ensure rider and member of the public safety. Stephen said “I’ve tried and failed to obtain the sufficient support required to organise races that are competitive yet safe, but haven’t had sufficient numbers of volunteers to help with the race to ensure safety. I wish to apologise to all the riders who have entered on both days, and who have planned to travel from across the country to attend the event. The minimum an organiser can do is put on a safe event and I have been unable to get the sufficient volunteers to do this, I’ve waited until our club 10 mile tt (Wednesday night) to approach other members and send a final communication request in the hope of getting enough helpers, yet I’m still short”.

Stephen would like to thanks the commissaries (Hendrik and Tim), NEG, Tim from Kirkley Cafe/Cycles and Andy and Phil from BCNE for their support, as well as our club members who volunteered. A late course change for the Border meant additional volunteers were required to marshal. Stephen will endeavour to ensure every rider is informed asap and will return any entry monies at the earliest opportunity.

Please support local cycling, we need volunteers (at all levels) to make sure events go ahead and are successful. The Barnesbury CC would like to sincerely apologise for disruption to race plans, particularly as it is a Bank Holiday weekend.
